India: "Rich" Country, Poor People??

Picture this!! It took 1 woman to bring down Lanka, Only 1 woman 2 create Mahabharat, 1 woman to bring down IPL and still people talk of women empowerment. Which brings us to the question? What the hell is IPL doing to our country? If the match fixing stories that the media keeps thrusting down our throats is true, is the entire show for sheer entertainment of the public? If so, kudos. Job well done. For 60 odd “games”, you had people on the edge of their seat. An action packed thriller. I guess all the commercials done by these cricketers seem to be helping their acting skills.

But I don’t see any of the young guns of India complaining. They love the entertainment. Gives them something to look forward to after a hard day at work. The media do a fine job to perpetrate people’s minds about their headlines. Rakhi Sawant and some lame Canadian guy broke up, Rahul Mahajan married a bimbo, and the marraige of Sania Mirza to a pakistani cricketer takes up air time. My question, who the heck cares? Well apparently, all of India does, hence the TRP ratings for these news channels. And hence the continual bombardment of absolute crap. Headlines go this way, Sania holds reception in Hyderabad, but says she will continue to play for India. And oh yeah, by the way, there was a bomb blast in Srinagar and a couple of soldiers died, but yeah Sania getting married gets us going.

If my memory serves me right, Sania Mirza’s only contirbution to Indian Tennis was coming in the third round of Wimbledon, once, and she was a National Hero. And Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes actually winning the tournament, sure whatever. But Sania Mirza is still playing for India, all’s well with the world again. Are we really all filmy, and like that bit of drama in our lives or maybe even other people’s lives to keep us entertained?

Are we becoming a rich country, a developing country, with poor morals? Think about it…
